China's auto sales in November dropped 7.9 percent year on year to 2.33 million units, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed Friday.
Auto sales in the January-November period totaled 24.3 million units, up 3.3 percent year on year, according to the data.
In November alone, sales of passenger vehicles went down 5.6 percent year on year to 2.08 million units.
Sales of new energy vehicles, however, sustained a rapid pace of growth, surging 72.3 percent year on year to 786,000 units last month.
The country's carmakers manufactured 2.39 million vehicles in November, a decline of 7.9 percent year on year, the association said.
Auto exports jumped 64.8 percent from a year earlier to 329,000 units last month, bringing total exports in the first eleven months to 2.79 million units, up 55.3 percent year on year.
Noting that China's automotive industry is at a "juncture of transformation and upgrading," the association called for a continuation of preferential policies in 2023, including purchase tax cuts for petrol-driven vehicles as well as region-specific measures to boost auto consumption.
