SEOUL, March 2 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's global automotive sales rose in single digits last month, marking the first turnaround in seven months, industry data showed Wednesday.
Five domestic carmakers, including Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung, and Ssangyong, sold a total of 567,211 vehicles globally in February, up 3.1 percent from the same month of last year.
It was the first rebound since July last year due to the demand recovery both at home and abroad.
The local car sale increased 1.9 percent to 103,274 units, and the automotive sale outside South Korea went up 3.4 percent to 463,907 units.
Hyundai Motor, the country's biggest automaker, globally sold 304,613 vehicles in February, up 1.4 percent from a year earlier. It was the first turnaround in eight months.
Hyundai's local automotive sales added 1.7 percent to 53,010 units, and its overseas sale rose 1.3 percent to 251,603 units.
Kia Motors, affiliated with Hyundai, logged a global car sale of 221,152 units in February, up 4.7 percent compared to the same month of last year.
Kia's domestic auto sale advanced 5.3 percent to 39,560 vehicles, and its outbound shipment expanded 4.5 percent to 181,592 units.
The global automotive sale by GM Korea totaled 22,851 units, which included 2,446 units in South Korea and 20,405 units outside South Korea, in February. It was sharply down 19.1 percent from a year ago.
Renault Samsung's global car sales soared 56.8 percent to 11,513 vehicles, and Ssangyong Motor's global sales more than doubled to 7,082 units.
