U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that Washington had reached a peace deal with Iran to immediately cease hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi confirmed on state TV that a deal was reached and was set to be signed on Friday.
"I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
