Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that a planned meeting between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping later this month could be postponed due to logistical challenges.
Speaking on CNBC’s "Squawk Box," Bessent clarified that any delay would not be related to President Trump’s demand that China police the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, any postponement would be because Trump wants to remain in Washington to coordinate the war effort, Bessent said.
The president had suggested in an interview with the Financial Times over the weekend that the summit could be delayed as he presses Beijing over unblocking the crucial waterway.
