U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to tout strength in the economy and unveil new measures aimed at lowering living costs during his State of the Union address on Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The official theme of the speech is “America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected,” the WSJ reported, citing White House officials familiar with the matter. The theme is a reference to the 250th anniversary of the country’s founding.
Trump plans to highlight American exceptionalism, the report said, and is also expected to tout his policies in cutting taxes and lower drug prices.
The president is grappling with a slew of recent polls indicating some voter dissatisfaction over his handling of the economy, especially in tackling an increasing cost of living. Analysts have warned that this could hurt the Republican party’s prospects in the mid-term elections scheduled for later this year.
Trump is set to deliver his address at 21:00 ET (02:00 GMT) on Tuesday.
