    Vietnam’s car sales surge 24 per cent, VinFast sets 2 sales records

    Vietnam’s car sales surged by 24 per cent in October month-over-month. Local carmaker VinFast continued to dominate the market, setting their second sales record this year. 

    OCTOBER AUTO SALES 

    Vietnam’s total car sales amounted to 37,910 units last October. While monthly sales rise, the year-on-year (YoY) difference shows a slight dip of 2.2 per cent. Out of the total sales, 17,129 completely knocked down (CKD) units w and 20,781 completely build up (CBU) units were sold. 

    Among Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) members, total sales amounted to 31,844 units. VAMA members’ passenger car sales declined by 14.2 per cent YoY while commercial vehicles rose by 8.7 per cent. Special purpose vehicle sales, on the other hand, were down by 81.1 per cent. Lastly, hybrid vehicle sales also decreased by 3.1 per cent. Only 8 electric vehicles (EV) units among VAMA members were sold.  

    SALES BY BRAND 

    VAMA’s top-selling member for October was Toyota with 7,768 units sold. The auto giant acquired 20.5 per cent of the market but its sales decreased by 11.1 YoY. Fortunately for Toyota, its year-to-date (YTD) sales amounted to 55,894 units, rising 13.5 per cent YoY. 

    Ford follows Toyota with 5,206 units sold last month, rising 3 per cent YoY. The American carmaker acquired 13.7 per cent of the market, just slightly above its share of 13 per cent. Ford’s YTD sales reached 38,861 units, 17.4 per cent up from last year. 

    Mitsubishi came at third place, selling 5,082 units, 15.5 per cent higher than October last year. YTD sales are just slightly over 30,000 units, rising 12.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2024. 

    Honda joins its fellow Japanese brands with 3,314 units sold and 8.7 per cent of the market acquired. From January to October this year, the company sold 21,143 units, 8 per cent higher than the same period last year. 

    Thaco Mazda joins the top 5 with 2,814 units sold and 7.4 per cent of the market acquired. October sales dipped 28.5 per cent YoY, while YTD sales of 24,586 units also declined by 2.5 per cent YoY. 

    VINFAST’S PERFORMANCE 

    Non-members VAMA members include Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Tesla, Nissan, and VinFast. VinFast recently broke a record as the first automaker in Vietnam’s history to sell more than 100,000 vehicles within 9 months of a year. It broke a second record in October ast the first brand to sell more than 20,000 vehicles in a month. 

    With 20,380 vehicles sold, VinFast holds its position as Vietnam’s top-selling vehicle brand. Its VF3 model is its best-selling product, with 4,619 units sold in October. The VF3 has sold 36,005 units YTD and is being dubbed as the country’s “national car.” 

    Among the brand’s commercial vehicle models, its Limo Green, a 7-seat multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), sold 4,160 units last month. Since its launch in August, around 6,500 Limo Green units have been delivered. 

    Another VinFast commercial vehicle, the Herio Green made headlines in the auto market. The Herio Green was awarded the title of “Commercial Fleet Vehicle of the Year” by the Car Choice Awards. It sold 2,920 units in October, bringing YTD sales to 11,524 units.
